The remodelling of West Ham this summer will take several forms: We already know the identities of squad players will exit at the end of their contracts whilst five others are rumoured to be up for sale in Graham Potter’s drive to make the team his own.
One intriguing ‘tug of love’ beckons for Nayef Aguerd who is on loan at Real Sociedad. It has been widely reported that Graham Potter wants to reintegrate Aguerd into his back line – after all, he’s a West Ham player and would certainly be a fee-free upgrade on Konstantinos Mavropanos.
It seems that Sociedad aren’t planning to let Aguerd leave without a fight. News from Spain (football-espania.net) suggests ‘Real Sociedad eyeing summer agreement with Premier League Club’ as they try to hold onto their loanee after the ‘dry loan’- with no option to buy – expires.
Never say goodbye? Aguerd and the Premier League may be reunited this summer
The report continues:
“Since arriving at La Real, Aguerd has been a shining light. He has looked assured in defence alongside Igor Zubeldia, and this has delighted club officials, who are now looking into the possibility of retaining his services on a permanent basis..However, the player’s will could carry weight. If Aguerd tells West Ham that he wants to stay at La Real, they could be forced into negotiating a deal.”
Aguerd is said to be very happy at Sociedad and settled in Spain with no desire to head back to London. So a summer tug of war looms for the Moroccan’s services.
Who’d have thought it.
