Tottenham Hotspur are planning to make an ambitious swoop for Borussia Dortmund talent Jamie Gittens
Tottenham Hotspur have focused on signing highly-regarded talents with bags of potential in recent transfer windows.
The North Londoners view the upcoming summer transfer window as a crucial opportunity to rebuild their squad following a hugely underwhelming 2024/25 Premier League campaign. The team has struggled both in front of goal and in creating clear-cut chances, leaving the club’s management with plenty to ponder. To compete at a higher level next season, several key areas will need reinforcements.
One of the most pressing concerns is the wide department. Spurs signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window, but Ange Postecoglou has used him as a No.9 rather than in his preferred left-wing role. Son Heung-min’s powers are clearly waning, while Timo Werner has largely been poor when given opportunities. As a result, the Lilywhites have set their sights on a young winger to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens has been on Tottenham’s radar since last year. The youngster has enjoyed an outstanding campaign in Borussia Dortmund colours, netting 11 goals and supplying four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. The Reading-born talent has been a beacon of light in an otherwise poor domestic campaign for the Yellow and Black, attracting interest from several top clubs across Europe.
Reliable journalist Dean Jones has written in his GIVEMESPORT transfer exclusive that Spurs have been doing groundwork on a potential Jamie Gittens deal in recent months. They are seeking to bag the youngster’s services after an outstanding season at Signal Iduna Park.
Although Dortmund have made it to the Champions League quarter-finals by beating LOSC Lille, they currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga. If the German club fails to secure Champions League football, they could face a difficult decision as they will need to generate funds, meaning that Gittens could be among a few valuable assets who could be sacrificed.

Gittens’ strong early season form has tailed off under new coach Niko Kovac, and if he fails to get back his mojo and Dortmund doesn’t qualify for Europe, the Bundesliga club will be forced to adjust their expectations and ask for a realistic fee to sell the England youth international. Their £70 million demands for the youngster will then become impractical, opening the door for Tottenham to agree a deal on a lesser fee.
However, Spurs will themselves have to be in Europe first in order to have a chance of landing a prodigious talent like Gittens, whose directness, dynamism and flair from wide areas would be a perfect fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system.
