Tottenham could offload Yves Bissouma before making a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes
Tottenham Hotspur have several players who could potentially move on from the club after a torrid 2024/25 season.
Several midfielders may depart, as Daniel Levy and Co. plot wholesale changes to the squad. Yves Bissouma is about to enter the final year of his contract. Having failed to flourish under Ange Postecoglou, the Hotspur Way chiefs are reportedly planning to offload Bissouma when the transfer window reopens in June.
Like the Mali international, Rodrigo Bentancur will also have just 12 months left on his contract after the conclusion of this campaign. While the club want to hand him a new contract, Bentancur has recently been linked with a move to Serie A side AC Milan.
Apart from Bentancur and Bissouma, Ange Postecoglou also has James Maddison, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski as far as the midfield roster is concerned. Thus, if a new midfielder is to be signed, departures are expected to take place to make room for the new ones.
Spurs are reportedly considering launching a bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, who could cost in the region of £50m in the summer transfer window. Therefore, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham’s interest in Joao Gomes will lead to a few departures from the midfield ranks.
“If they’re looking at a player in midfield it means there are going to be players in midfield who are leaving the club,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I don’t question the quality of the Tottenham midfielders, I just question where they’re playing sometimes. I think the consistency within the midfield is as much a problem as the quality.
“However, if reports are coming out that they’re looking at new midfield players, I would have thought they’d be aiming higher than this. Gomes might be a decent player, but he hasn’t exactly been the outstanding player for Wolves in a disappointing season.”

Regardless of Wolves’ struggles this season, Gomes has done relatively well. He has been one of the very players to perform consistently amid a chaotic campaign that currently sees Vitor Pereira’s side in the 17th position. The Brazilian enforcer has racked up three goals and an assist in 27 Premier League games thus far, and Vitor Pereira will need him to stay fit and deliver the goods after the international break to help the Wanderers maintain their top-flight status.
As Gomes has a contract at Molineux until 2028 (Transfermarkt), Wolves find themselves in a strong negotiating position and under no pressure to sanction his departure if they stay in the Premier League. So, Tottenham may require to fulfil their demands to prise the South American to N17.

At 24, the Rio De Janeiro native has the potential to grow, and he would be a straight upgrade on the hugely inconsistent Bissouma. That being said, we must try to go all out for Gomes’ signature later this year.
