- Ancelotti claimed he didn’t expect to be sacked and was preparing for next year
Carlo Ancelotti was bullish about his chances of remaining as Real Madrid boss next season, despite their embarrassing defeat to Man City in the Champions League semi-finals.
Los Blancos were humiliated by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad on Wednesday in a 4-0 loss courtesy of two goals from Bernardo Silva, one from Manuel Akanji, before Julian Alvarez added the gloss on the victory by netting in injury time.
It meant City progressed to the final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on June 10 after a 5-1 aggregate win and will face Inter Milan.
Ancelotti’s contract expires at the end of next season and there has been speculation about his future after what will be an ultimately disappointing year for Real.
They failed to regain their LaLiga title and are 14 points off Barcelona, while they are set to end the campaign with just the Copa del Rey title – something that is far from the standards president Florentino Perez demands.

City blew Real Madrid away on Tuesday and won 4-0 on the night and 5-1 overall on aggregate
Ancelotti has also been linked with the vacant Brazil job with the south American nation reportedly seeing him as their primary target to replace Tite who left following the World Cup.
But when asked about his future after the City defeat, the Italian insisted he would keep his job and use the painful loss as motivation for next season.
‘We have lost to a team with more quality and more intensity than us,’ he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
‘Last year we were superior, and this year they were superior. It’s a defeat that hurts a lot. They’ve been much better, there’s no other choice but to think about next season.
‘Next season, I will be here to fight to win another Champions League.
‘No one doubts me. I think the president was very clear 15 days ago. What he tells me in private, I’m not going to say here.’
Despite the defeat, it was a historic night for Ancelotti given it was his 191st game as a manager in the Champions League, meaning he surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 190 matches in the competition.
The 63-year-old remains one of the greatest managers of the modern era, winning a combined four European Cups with Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Across two spells with Los Blancos, he has won 10 trophies and 167 of his 232 games in charge.
It has been a disappointing season for Real who also missed out on regaining their LaLiga title
