Marcus Rashford won big at Man United’s annual awards night on Monday.
Manchester United Football Club held their awards night yesterday evening. Weirdly, there was far less publicity involved than there has been in years gone by. Perhaps the minds of the powers-that-be are elsewhere due to the possible club sale.
Anyway, for the first time in years, it felt like United had many potential winners of the award – which is a good sign, as it means several top players are performing at a high level.
Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Marcus Rashford always felt like the frontrunners. I’d give a special mention to Luke Shaw, too.
Eventually, it was Rashford who’d win both the Sir Matt Busby and Player’s Player of the Year awards. The Englishman has scored 30 goals in all competitions, while also adding 11 assists.
After the night, Rashford would take to Twitter to send a message to the fans, with an accompanying photo of the homegrown hero all-smiles with his two trophies.
Check out the photo of Rashford, all-smiles, with both of his awards here:
Rashy becomes the first academy graduate to win the Sir Matt Busby award since Ryan Giggs 25 years ago. That’s obviously an accolade he can be extremely proud of after this stunning season.
Personally, my vote would have gone to Casemiro, but it doesn’t take anything away from Rashford who is a more than worthy winner. The scary thing is (for other teams) I fully expect the Englishman to only get better under Ten Hag.
Now it’s up to United to ensure Rashford stays by signing a new contract. All the talk seems to be positive on that front, though I will not fully settle until the deal is signed, sealed and delivered. This guy has the potential to spearhead an exciting United team that will be hoping to compete for all the major trophies in a year or two. The sooner his future is secure, the better it’ll be for all involved.
Congratulations, Marcus!
