Jadon Sancho has looked sharp over the last couple of games, with the Englishman playing better over on the right-hand side. That has to continue this weekend.
If we’re being honest with ourselves, the FA Cup final is going to be an uphill battle. City are just far further along in their project, hitting their stride at just the right time.
However, Manchester United’s end to the season has been positive. The Red Devils won their last three, meaning they’ll head to Wembley with a confident dressing room.
For the most part, the team picks itself. With the Antony injury news, there’s perhaps two, maybe three positions in the starting XI that are up for debate. The right-wing slot is the most interesting, in our opinion.
There’s now a chance that Antony is fit to play some part in that game, according to Ten Hag, though after seeing him arrive at Old Trafford on Sunday utilising crutches, the chances of him starting feel slim.
With that in mind, we think it’s Jadon Sancho’s time to shine.
The 23-year-old United star simply has to start on the right-wing, in our opinion, for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, it’s not a coincidence that he’s suddenly started playing better on that side of the attack over the last couple of matches.
Sancho just looks more confident out there. He’s great with either food so adjusting to one side of the pitch isn’t really a problem for him, even though the man himself prefers to play off the left.
There’s always pressure on a player when they make a big-money move. It’s often through no fault of their own as the footballer has literally no say in the eventual transfer fee. For the most part, the lights have looked a little too bright for Sancho, though we’ve seen glimpses of his overall quality this season. Ten Hag is slowly getting the best out of the Englishman.
You also have to factor in Sancho’s City history. He was with the blue half of Manchester before begrudgingly making the move to Borussia Dortmund due to a lack of playing time. The fact he then made the switch to the red side of the city will have hurt some City fans. Sancho will have revenge on the mind, as he looks to prove his former employers wrong.
More than anything, it’s about continuing to build his own personal confidence. We’ve all seen how impressive Sancho can be during his time at Borussia Dortmund. He absolutely has what it takes to play at a supremely high level. He’ll slowly start to get back to his best if the minutes remain consistent. It’s brutal for Antony, but this is exactly the type of opportunity that Sancho needed.
It’s now up to him to take it.
