Man United will not have Anthony Martial available for the FA Cup final through injury.
Manchester United have the chance to add to their Carabao Cup trophy this weekend, during an FA Cup final vs Manchester City.
Erik ten Hag sounded positive about United’s chances following the 2-1 win over Fulham at the weekend, though he’s now been dealt an injury blow.
One of his forwards has been ruled out with a muscle tear; Anthony Martial.
The club confirmed the news last night, as the France international sustained the injury late on against Fulham in United’s final Premier League game.
Martial, 27, was pictured clutching his hamstring as Ten Hag gave the players a speech following his first season in charge. It has since been confirmed the Frenchman’s problem was more serious than first feared.
The number nine is supposed to have been United’s first choice forward this season, but injuries have seriously ruined his year. His lack of availability has been a major blow for Ten Hag, who has had to rely on the likes of Wout Weghorst to fill that void. The Dutchman has zero league goals…
For Ten Hag, it’s now a case of working out how to play it. Does he opt for Weghorst up top? Or does he switch Marcus Rashford back to the striker spot? It’s a tough decision.
For Martial, you’d imagine his time at United is all-but-up. Ten Hag simply hasn’t been able to trust the ex-AS Monaco man this term. He will not stand for that and I fully expect he could be moved on – assuming the right offer comes in.
