Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is keen on joining Man United, though a deal is not close.
Manchester United Football Club are seemingly working to get their business conducted early, which is an absolute breath of fresh air.
The Red Devils are looking to return to their past glories under Erik ten Hag, with the manager making an excellent impression over the first year.
He needs to be backed by the club during this crucial transfer window. Over the last few days, links to Mason Mount have grown in popularity. Suddenly, it’s looking like a deal to acquire the midfielder could actually happen.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has offered his latest thoughts. He states that the 24-year-old is ‘keen’ on joining United, with talks continuing to take place behind the scenes.
There is expected to be ‘no issues’ in regard to personal terms, while a deal is not close right now due to the large gap in valuation. Chelsea are asking for a fee of close to £70m, meaning a deal is not ‘imminent’ right now.
Mount has one year left on his Chelsea contract, so United must resist the temptation to overpay. Sure, if the price is right, then go and get him during this window. However, if the demands continue to be well above market value, just wait a year and see how it plays out.
There can be no doubt that Mount would be the perfect fit for this system. The Englishman is a willing presser, a hard worker and has strengths both offensively and defensively.
The fact that Chelsea fans are gutted at the prospect of losing Mount should be proof enough that he’d be an astute acquisition.
