Man United are set to formally approach Chelsea about the signing of Mason Mount.
Manchester United links to Mason Mount are now coming thick and fast. During this window, the Old Trafford club are seemingly desperate to strengthen in midfield.
The Chelsea player is out of contract in one year, with Erik ten Hag looking to strike a deal at a reasonable price, given the fact Mount would be available for free just next summer.
Yesterday’s latest claimed that Mount is ‘keen’ on switching to Old Trafford this summer, after being unable to reach an agreement on new terms at Stamford Bridge.
Today’s update in the saga comes from Sky Sports News. They claim that United are now expected to ‘formally approach’ Chelsea over the potential signing of the 24-year-old.
Internal discussions over a move for Mount are continuing, with the Englishman viewed as one of a number of midfield options the club is looking at.
If a deal can be struck with Chelsea, it’s thought that personal terms with Mount will not be a problem.
Mount hasn’t played for Chelsea since April after undergoing surgery on a pelvic injury, though it is thought he said his goodbyes to the Chelsea fans during their final Premier League game of the season last weekend.
For United, a move for Mount would add depth in a key area of the field. The Old Trafford club would also be getting younger in a position they’re suddenly ageing.
Mount is an ideal stylistic fit for the way Ten Hag plays, with the Englishman able to contribute on both sides of the ball.
He’s a willing presser, excellent passer, a super hard worker and positionally excellent. If the price is right, this feels like an astute piece of business if United can pull it off.
