Antony is now looking likely to miss the FA Cup final with injury.
Manchester United Football Club take on the old enemy in an FA Cup final tomorrow, with the Red Devils looking to topple Manchester City.
Ahead of the game, United have been sweating on the fitness of Antony, with the winger hobbling off against Chelsea a little over a week ago.
The Brazil international was an onlooker during United’s final league game of the season against Fulham. He arrived on crutches, though Erik ten Hag refused to rule him out of the FA Cup final.
Today, the gaffer met the media ahead of the Wembley showpiece, revealing the latest on Antony. Sadly, it’s not good news.
According to the boss, the united star now only has a ‘really small chance’ at featuring tomorrow due to the injury. This will be a bitter blow for the Old Trafford club, with the ex-Ajax man set to be a big miss.
Here’s what the gaffer had to say in full, per ManUtd.com:
“Dos Santos still has a chance, but it’s a really small chance.
“He didn’t make the progress. So, what I say is he still has a chance, but it’s unlikely he is available.”
I always felt like it was going to be an uphill struggle to get Antony fit for this one, judging by how he looked over the weekend.
It’s cruel to the player as he deserves the chance to showcase his talents on the biggest stage. Contrary to what the media keep spewing out, Antony has been a vital player for Ten Hag, with United always performing better when he’s in the line-up.
Now the manager is left scratching his head about how to play it. Does he opt for Jadon Sancho out on the right now? That feels like the most likely solution, given the Englishman has been in good form himself of late.
Either way, we’re going to need massive performances from every single player out there in a red shirt.
