Man United are edging towards completing a move to sign AS Monaco centre-back, Axel Disasi.
Manchester United are looking to bring in a new centre-back this summer, with the Red Devils continuing to overhaul the playing squad under Erik ten Hag.
Harry Maguire could well be on the way out, which could explain why the Dutchman has eyes on Kim Min-jae, and other defenders, as possible replacements.
Axel Disasi is the latest name to be heavily linked with a potential Old Trafford transfer. It’s L’Equipe with the story. The Daily Mail translated the piece.
They state that United are close to finalising a deal to sign the 25-year-old, who United view as a replacement for their club captain.
It’s stated that United and AS Monaco are yet to begin formal discussions, the transfer will be worth around £34m; a fee which United will have no problem paying.
Disasi featured in all 38 games for AS Monaco in Ligue 1 this term, which gives an insight into his fitness levels and injury record. The Frenchman is the perfect back-up option to have for when Raphael Varane needs a rest (or is out injured).
AS Monaco could let the Frenchman leave as they look to balance the books following finishing outside of the Champions League places.
This feels like an astute move. United probably need one more centre-back for depth purposes, though they will not want to spend a large chunk of their budget on that position.
Disasi is a talented player, available at a reasonable price. This is the sort of deal that could be fully funded by player sales this summer. Yes, there’s some risk involved due to the lack of Premier League experience, but Disasi will not be expected to start week-in-week-out from day one. He’ll have that settling-in period, which is always helpful.
