Man United have eyes on young Atalanta striker, Rasmus Hojlund.
It’s arguable that a new striker is Manchester United’s biggest need going into the transfer window. The Red Devils have been competing without a top tier forward all season long, though still managed to finish third.
Harry Kane would be the dream signing. The Englishman is an elite striker, who’d guarantee 25+ goals every single season. However, Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur will not sell him easily.
In the instance that Kane remains at White Hart Lane, the Red Devils will have to look elsewhere. Rasmus Hojlund is a name that has been linked, with the Dane impressing for Atalanta.
Journalist Matteo Moretto has provided an update on a potential United move for Hojlund.
He took to Twitter late last night, claiming that United are ‘thinking of’ the 20-year-old striker. Presumably as a possible alternative to Kane.
At the moment, there has been no ‘direct contact’ between the parties, but Hojlund is one player that the club ‘likes’ during this summer transfer window.
Moretto states that United could make a move for the player in the ‘next few weeks’. Again, they’re probably waiting to see what happens with Kane first.
Hojlund is immensely gifted, though this feels like a risker move due to the age. He’s going to need time to settle in, while also, the Dane will have some inconsistent patches. That’s only natural.
For once, it’s good to see United doing their due diligence and having a back-up plan in place. For too many years, this club has wasted too much time on one target before moving onto the next one slowly. This time around, it feels as if the club will move quickly onto alternative options.
While Hojlund may not offer the immediate impact that Kane would, he does provide longevity. He’d also be considerably cheaper during this transfer window, leaving United with a bigger budget to invest in other areas of the pitch.
