Declan Rice has fans at Man United, though it’s Arsenal who are currently leading the charge.
Fresh off his Europa Conference League victory last night, Declan Rice is all set to leave his beloved West Ham United.
The midfielder has been class for the London outfit over the last few years, though now, he’s set for a new challenge.
Rice obviously has attracted interest aplenty from Europe’s elite sides, though the eventual winning bid is likely to be around the £100m mark.
The Telegraph have provided the latest on Rice’s future, claiming that Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of the midfielder.
That’s where the Old Trafford club come in. Apparently, the 24-year-old midfielder ‘has admirers’ at Man United, while Bayern Munich are also keen on the Englishman.
That said, it’s reiterated United are currently behind Arsenal in the transfer race, with Mikel Arteta’s men leading the way.
There can be no doubt that Rice would represent a direct upgrade in a key area of the field, with a view to replacing Casemiro as the first-choice defensive midfielder over the next few years.
His performance last night is the latest in a long line of elite level displays, which does explain why West Ham will command a massive transfer fee to let their prized asset leave.
The question is, are United that desperate for a player like Rice right now? I genuinely believe that money could be spent better elsewhere this summer.
That’s not to say Rice is a bad player, rather, United have more pressing needs. A new striker, goalkeeper and centre-half are massive requirements. With United having a limited budget due to the confusing club ownership situation, Ten Hag must spend his cash wisely.
