Erik ten Hag is ready to move away from Harry Maguire, though the player has other ideas…
Manchester United Football Club are moving in a positive direction under Erik ten Hag, though the work has to continue this summer.
The Dutch manager has to be given further money to spend in order to continue closing the gap on Manchester City. To supplement the £100-150m reported funds available, United will also have to sell players.
One man whose head could be on the chopping block is Harry Maguire. The Englishman, a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has fallen out-of-favour over the past twelve months.
TalkSPORT have provided the latest information on Maguire’s future. Today, they ran a story claiming that the Englishman is ‘reluctant’ to leave the club.
According to the story, Ten Hag ‘wants to sell’ the United player, in order to fund a move to sign Kim Min-jae. However, Maguire is ‘not keen’ on departing, despite being ostracised from the starting line-up.
Maguire is attracting interest, from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, while a move seemed somewhat likely due to the fact that the Englishman would like to remain in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions plans.
However, it seems as though Maguire has other ideas. He’s ready to stay and fight for his place, despite being arguably the fifth-choice centre-back at the club right now.
At this point, things just become a little awkward. If Maguire is intent on staying, I can envisage a scenario in which Ten Hag strips him of the captaincy and gives it to someone else – creating more drama.
Perhaps, in order to save face, Maguire should accept that his time in Manchester is up, moving to a club that can give him starts on a regular basis.
