Man United are looking to sign Diogo Costa from Porto, according to the latest information from Portugal.
Manchester United Football Club are moving in the right direction under Erik ten Hag, with another huge transfer window now on the horizon.
A striker is probably the top need, though the need for a goalkeeper who can play out from the back is also an absolute must.
Don’t get me wrong, I love David de Gea and he has been brilliant for the Red Devils over the last decade. However, there’s no room for sentiment in football.
Diogo Costa is absolutely the fans’ favourite to replace De Gea, though links to the man from Portugal have been few and far between – particularly recently.
CM Journal (quoting Correio da Manhã) have provided an update on Costa’s future today. They state that FC Porto will need to generate some funds via player sales before June 30th, with the goalkeeper their most valuable asset (£38.5m via Transfermarkt).
According to the article, United are ‘finalising’ a proposal to sign the 23-year-old, as they look to strengthen in between the sticks.
Costa’s biggest asset is his ability to play out from the back, while he’s also showcased his talents as an excellent shot-stopper.
There are some concerns after Costa had some struggles during the World Cup, though he’s still young and learning his trade, so if this move does happen, fans have to remain patient.
Judging by the wording, it sounds like United are still finalising the Costa offer behind the scenes and they haven’t yet taken this proposal to Porto directly. With that in mind, it could be a little while yet before we hear anything concrete.
