The summer transfer window is crucial for Bayern Munich as they look to bounce back strongly next season. They started the window strongly by completing the signing of Konrad Laimer on Friday. The Austrian midfielder arrives from RB Leipzig on a free transfer.
Along with signing new players in the summer, Bayern also has to make tough decisions regarding the future of a few senior players. Lucas Hernandez is one of the players in the senior squad that is facing an uncertain future at Die Roten. The Bavarian club wants to avoid a transfer saga involving the French international.
According to SportBild, Bayern wants a final decision from Lucas Hernandez before he leaves for vacation on June 14. The French defender has been working on his comeback from a knee injury at Sabner Strasse. Die Roten chiefs held talks with Hernandez this week to resolve his future.
Rekordmeister is eager to extend Hernandez’s contract beyond 2024. The Bavarian club was confident about reaching an agreement during Ruckrunde after holding positive talks with the representatives of the French defender. He was expected to sign a new deal before the start of next season.
The talks with Hernandez stalled after PSG showed interest in him. The French club has reportedly handed him better terms. Hernandez is now leaning towards joining the French club over signing a new contract at Bayern. It is a big blow for Rekordmeister since Hernandez was going to be a big part of the club’s long-term plans.
Bayern cannot risk losing Hernandez on a free transfer next summer. It will be a big financial loss since they had paid a club record fee for him in 2019. The Bavarian club is reportedly looking to get a fee of over €60 million for the former Atletico Madrid defender.
The record Bundesliga champions will still hope to convince Hernandez to sign a new deal. Thomas Tuchel will also do his part regarding a contract extension since he rates Hernandez very highly. The German coach is excited about the prospect of working with him next season.

Die Roten will have to dip into the transfer market for a left-footed central defender if Lucas Hernandez ends up leaving Bavaria. It will be the fifth consecutive transfer window where Bayern will be signing a central defender for the first team. They may have to sign two defenders since Benjamin Pavard is leaving the club this summer.
