Man United interest in Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, has been backed up by another source.
Manchester United could look to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer, to either replace or compete with David de Gea.
Erik ten Hag prefers his shot-stopper to be able to play out from the back. That’s De Gea’s biggest weakness.
Several shot-stoppers have been linked with United. On Saturday night, we covered a story from talkSPORT, claiming that the Red Devils were ready to move for Jordan Pickford.
That interest in the 29-year-old has now been backed up by a second source; The Sun. Once again, they claim that United are ‘ready to move’ for the signing.
Apparently, Ten Hag wants a ‘top shotstopper’ to either compete with, or replace De Gea, in the event that he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Pickford is ‘top’ of United’s list, with it once again being claimed that it’d cost around £30m to sign the England international.
Everton managed to stave off relegation last season, though Sean Dyche could look to sell Pickford, in order to raise funds to spend elsewhere.
It’s stated that initially, Ilan Meslier was top of United’s list for possible goalkeeper options, though the Frenchma’s dip in form has led to Pickford taking up that mantle.
United could also use Tom Heaton as part of the deal, with the Englishman having worked with Dyche previously at Burnley.
Honestly, I’d be disappointed if this is the option. While it’s true Pickford is better than De Gea with the ball at feet, the overall skill and ability just doesn’t feel like it’s of the required level.
I guess for now, we’ll just have to wait and see whether more sources pick up on this news.
