The summer transfer is set to become even trickier for Bayern Munich after the events that took place on Tuesday. The Bavarian club continued to hold talks with Lucas Hernandez to get clarity regarding his future. The French defender conveyed his wish for transfer, which is a significant blow to Rekordmeister’s plans for next season.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Hernandez has told Bayern about his desire to experience a new adventure by joining Paris-Saint Germain this summer. The French defender has no plans to sign a new contract with Die Roten. His current deal in Bavaria expires at the end of next season.
Sky also reports that Bayern wants €60 million plus add-ons for the French defender. The Bavarian club will now wait for the official offer from PSG. The record Bundesliga champions have no plans to allow Hernandez to run down his contract and leave Bavaria next summer as a free agent.
Meanwhile, Bild is reporting that more discussions are planned between the club chiefs and Hernandez on Wednesday. If there is no positive outcome from talks on Wednesday, Lucas Hernandez is expected to leave Bayern this summer, provided PSG meets the German club’s valuation of the defender.
The departure of Hernandez is a big blow to Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next season. The German coach was looking forward to working with the French defender. Hernandez was on the sidelines during Ruckrunde after suffering a serious knee injury during World Cup 2022.
Bayern was optimistic about reaching an agreement with Hernandez over a new deal during the second half of the season. Positive discussions reportedly took place between both parties. However, French media has reported that Paris Saint-Germain came up with an attractive offer to turn Hernandez’s head.
It does look like Bayern has no plans to match PSG’s contract offer for Hernandez. Barring a big turnaround on Wednesday, the Bavarian club will now wait for the French club to make an offer for Hernandez. Bayern will look to recoup the majority of the fee (€80 million) that they paid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.

The Bavarian club will have to dip into the transfer market for the fifth consecutive summer to sign a center-back. They need to sign a new central defender since Benjamin Pavard is also expected to leave Bavaria this summer. Pavard has already communicated to club chiefs about his desire to join a new club next season. Both French defenders have rejected new contracts offered by the German club.
