Man United have eyes on Leeds United defender, Robin Koch.
Manchester United Football Club are certainly in the hunt for a defender of some sort this summer. That much is obvious.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been linked with names aplenty in that department, with Kim Min-jae the name getting the most mentions.
Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring by Florian Plettenberg. According to his sources, United have eyes on Leeds United’s Robin Koch.
He claims that United have added the 26-year-old to their transfer ‘shortlist’, while ‘loose talks’ about a prospective move have already taken place.
Koch has recently been relegated back to the Championship with Leeds. No doubt the German is looking to move on, in order to play at a higher level during the 2023/24 campaign.
This is certainly a rumour that comes out of leg-field. It’s rare that a club with United’s stature would be interested in signing a defender for a side that was relegated after shipping an alarming amount of goals.
However, I understand the interest. Koch would have to understand that he wouldn’t be first-choice when (if) he signs. However, the attraction to Koch comes with his versatility. He can play at right-back, centre-back or as an invested wing-back.
A move for Koch could potentially fill plenty of holes with just one player, which could be smart given the fact that this squad is still lacking depth in a variety of positions.
‘Loose’ talks suggests that Koch isn’t a high priority for United, rather an option should other targets (like Kim Min-jae) become unobtainable. Again, this just feels like United ensuring all bases are covered, going into a hugely important few months.
