Man United will turn their attention to Rasmus Hojlund, with a Harry Kane deal all but dead in the water.
Manchester United Football Club need a striker this summer. It’s arguably the biggest concern among supporters going into a crucial transfer period.
Harry Kane was undoubtedly the top target. However, United have seemingly admitted defeat in that chase, with the Englishman set to spend at least another year at Tottenham Hotspur.
That claim is backed up by the Evening Standard today, with Kane now ‘expected’ to stay at White Hart Lane this summer, with Daniel Levy refusing to sell to a Premier League rival under any circumstances.
As a result, United have had to look elsewhere. The Evening Standard claim it’s Rasmus Hojlund who is the next man up.
It’s stated United will ‘switch their focus’ to more realistic targets, like the 20-year-old Atalanta forward, who could cost around £50m.
The young Dane has impressed in Serie A this season, scoring goals galore, while also making a name for himself at international level too.
First and foremost, credit to United. For years, they’ve become tied up and too focused on one player, thus leading to disappointing transfer windows. It seems they’re no longer doing that under Ten Hag. Instead, they’re moving on to other options swiftly.
Hojlund, albeit a much younger option, is an intriguing prospect. He’s still so young so there will be a settling in period, while he still will have those inconsistent moments over the course of a long season.
In terms of longevity, Hojlund can offer many more years than Kane, which is another tick in the positive column.
There’s a real risk-reward feel about this prospective move, though Ten Hag’s judgement hasn’t let us down so far. We have to continue to trust the gaffer.
