Man United are starting to think David de Gea may have already played his last game for the Reds.
Manchester United have heavily relied upon David de Gea to save their bacon on multiple occasions over the last few years, with the Spaniard carrying this team at times.
The Red Devils have been indebted to the Spaniard for many, many years. However, things can change very quickly in football. That could be the case here.
De Gea’s deal expires this summer, as United look to come to terms with the veteran on an agreement. As of yet, that hasn’t happened.
Now, ESPN believe United are ‘growing concerned’ that the star may have already played his last game for the club.
United chiefs believed they were close to an agreement, but talks have dragged on and now there are ‘fears’ he could leave this summer.
The Reds opted against triggering a one-year extension clause in De Gea’s contract, which would have kept him at the club until 2024. However, that option expired in May…
Talks are still ongoing, though United are not as optimistic a compromise will be reached, as the Reds look to lower De Gea’s wages.
De Gea is now exploring the possibility of a move back to Spain, while there’s also interest from Saudi Arabia.
It’s a really tricky situation, though I cannot help but feel it’d be best for all involved if De Gea walks away now. It’d force United to spend big money on a goalkeeper – something they desperately need.
De Gea’s inability to play out from the back is seriously alarming. The way United concede possession so easily is embarrassing at times and an upgrade in that area could be quietly effective. Diogo Costa, anyone?
