David de Gea is seemingly more likely to leave Man United than ever before…
Manchester United fans have been pretty harsh in regard to David de Gea criticism over the last few weeks. The superstar Spaniard has been an incredible servant to this club. The stick he’s getting is largely over the top.
However, it’s true the game has moved on over the last decade. De Gea’s weakness is playing out from the back. That’s arguably the number one trait any top-tier keeper needs in 2023.
With De Gea’s contract officially expiring at the end of the month, the panic is starting to set in. Initially, it looked like a deal would be done, albeit on reduced terms. However, we’re now a fortnight away from the 32-year-old being able to leave for nothing…
Now, the Manchester Evening News have provided an update on De Gea. They claim that the United star is now ‘increasingly likely’ to leave United this summer, as talks continue over his future.
De Gea was not named as one of the players who are set to be released upon contract expiry yesterday.
Discussions over a potential new contract ‘remain open’, though United are exploring their other options behind the scenes.
No doubt no goalkeeper will be signed until they know exactly what’s happening with De Gea. The club will not want to spend big on a shot-stopper, for De Gea to stick around, as an example. In that scenario, they’d probably prefer to move for a younger, cheaper option.
I can’t help but feel the time is right to make the switch. We should thank De Gea for his incredible service and bring in an elite level replacement as soon as possible.
