Man United have been given the opportunity to sign Goncalo Ramos.
Manchester United Football Club are in desperate need of a new striker. That much is obvious. Erik ten Hag made it clear pretty early on that Harry Kane was the dream target.
However, the Englishman is looking increasingly likely to remain at Spurs, meaning United will have to look elsewhere.
The links will start to grow in frequency until an elite level striker is signed. Today, it’s the turn of Goncalo Ramos.
It’s The Sun who are running the story. They claim that United ‘are being offered’ the chance to sign the 21-year-old forward.
Apparently, Benfica rate Ramos at around the £80m mark, with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, looking to create a bidding war along with Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s reiterated that United are ‘on the lookout’ for more firepower next season, as they look to find some help for Marcus Rashford.
Ramos scored 25 goals for his club this season, though Benfica will not accept anything under the aforementioned £80m mark. It’s believed Mendes is working hard to get his client a Premier League switch, preferably this summer.
The young striker from Portugal may not be the finished product right now, though he clearly has an eye for goal. Yes, there would be some inconsistencies if Ramos was signed and immediately thrust into the starting role. However, the ability is so obviously there.
If Kane isn’t available, this wouldn’t be a bad back-up option for Ten Hag – though yet again, the price could become a pivotal factor in this move. It’s an awful lot of money to spend on a player that could be considered a pretty risky signing.
