Man United are set to go back in with an improved offer to sign Mason Mount.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move to acquire Mason Mount over the last few weeks.
The Englishman is out of contract at Chelsea in twelve months’ time, with the London club now debating whether to cash in, or risk losing him for free next summer.
United saw an initial £40m bid rejected last week, with the Reds set to go back in with a higher bid.
Now, according to the Daily Mail on Sunday, we’ve been provided an update on the Mount front.
It’s stated that United ‘are expected’ to make an improved £50m offer, to sign the 24-year-old, ‘this week’. Again, it’s reiterated that a £40m bid was turned down last Wednesday.
United initially faced competition to sign Mount, with Liverpool also keen, though they’ve dropped out, leaving the Reds as frontrunners.
Chelsea’s homegrown hero Mount is giving off signals which suggests he’d want a move, with no new contract for the Englishman at Stamford Bridge looking likely right now.
Injuries hampered Mount’s 2022/23 season, though that doesn’t take away from what an excellent footballer he is. We’ve seen it for both club and country. This guy can absolutely play at the highest level.
Now for United, it’s about trying to find that sweet spot in terms of transfer fee. There comes as point where United need to say no and instead, wait until next summer and try to sign Mount for nothing. I’d imagine the Reds will not go much higher than the £50m bid that’s about to be tabled.
