Axel Disasi is a player that Man United still have eyes on signing.
Manchester United are yet to be sold. Manchester United are yet to sign a player this summer. I’m unsure as to whether the two things are related.
Alas, Erik ten Hag must be growing in frustration at both situations. He needs signings in order to continue to close the gap on Manchester City atop the table. He’s been delivered none as of yet.
A centre-back is among the needs (and wants). Several have been linked. Kim Min-jae was the top target, though that deal no longer looks likely.
Another name that has been mentioned is AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who is also a France international, enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season. Clubs understandably started sniffing around for his signature, including United.
Fabrizio Romano has recently provided an update on Disasi’s situation. He claims that the 25-year-old defender is a ‘concrete name’ on the United list for a summer move, following the news that Kim will likely head to Bavaria.
Disasi is not the only player United are looking at, with Jean Clair Todibo also of interest. He has been scouted ‘multiple times’.
Ten Hag has to get this one right. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will likely continue to be the go-to pairing, so it seems as though he’s looking for that solid third or fourth choice option (Victor Lindelof remains in the mix).
It does feel like Harry Maguire’s time at Old Trafford is pretty much done. The Englishman doesn’t really fit in with the way the Dutch gaffer likes to play.
Disasi, on the other hand, is tailor-made for this system. He has a great ability to play out from the back, is good in the air, while being positionally perfect. You’d also like to think that he wouldn’t mind rotating in and out of the team whenever necessary.
Like any transfer, it all comes down to price. Hopefully, AS Monaco aren’t asking for too much in order to let Disasi leave.
