Conor Gallagher insists he wants to help get Chelsea ‘back where they belong’ after disastrous season – despite the £50m-rated midfielder facing an uncertain future amid summer clearout
Conor Gallagher has outlined his intention to stay at Chelsea and help the club improve on it’s poor 2022-23 season, despite uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer as the club tries to improve its Financial Fair Play position after spending over £600million in the last two transfer windows.
The historic incomings were in part to blame for Gallagher’s failure to nail down a regular starting spot.
But he is now under threat of leaving the club all together with the Mauricio Pochettino-enforced clearout in full swing.

Gallagher, who enjoyed a breakout 2021-22 season while on-loan with Crystal Palace, appeared to assert his desire to stay at the club and revealed the last campaign was ‘really tough’ for all involved.
‘I’m a Chelsea player and I love Chelsea,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘It’s been a really tough season for me and the whole team and club. We’ll work as hard as we can to get Chelsea back to where they belong.’
The Blues finished 12th last season, not only behind their top six foes but even below local rivals Fulham and Brentford. Europa Conference League winners West Ham were the only London side to finish below Chelsea in the Premier League.
Their disastrous season and uncurbed spending has prompted change. Incoming boss Pochettino has set about slashing the bloated roster with several star players on the chopping block.

Mateo Kovacic is nearing a switch to Manchester City, while Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech and N’Golo Kante are all of interest to clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Gallagher meanwhile has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham, Brighton and Newcastle as well as Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
The youngster, who has two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, opted to stay and fight for his place in January when the club accepted a £45m bid from Everton for his services.
The England international started just 18 of his 35 appearances in the Premier League last term, scoring three times and assisting once.
