Along with making a few changes to the squad in January, Bayern Munich also made a pivotal change in the coaching staff of the first team. The Bavarian club parted ways with the senior goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Julian Nagelsmann had given the blessing to make this change to his coaching staff.
Tapalovic’s departure from Die Roten annoyed club captain Manuel Neuer. The 37-year-old goalkeeper publicly expressed his disappointment about the club’s decision to sack Tapalovic. Several players in the first team were also reportedly surprised by Tapalovic’s exit midway through the season.
Bayern went on to appoint Hoffenheim’s Michael Reichner as the new goalkeeping coach of the first team. Despite Julian Nagelsmann’s departure in March, Reichner was retained by Die Roten. It does look like Reichner will share the coaching duties with Tapalovic from next season.
According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern is set to bring Toni Tapalovic back after sacking him six months ago. Tapalovic’s new role has not been defined by Die Roten. He will work with Reichner to improve the goalkeeping setup of the first team.
The return of Tapalovic will be a big boost for Manuel Neuer. The German international enjoys working with Tapalovic. Neuer has been working with Tapalovic since he arrived at Die Roten from Schalke more than a decade ago. It does look like Thomas Tuchel has no problems in adding such an experienced coach to his backroom staff for next season.
Along with this huge development in the goalkeeping department, Bayern may end up selling two senior goalkeepers before the end of the summer transfer window. Manuel Neuer will continue to be Die Roten’s number one next season as he is expected to be fit by the start of pre-season training.
Alexander Nubel may start pre-season training with Bayern after a successful loan spell at Monaco. However, the 26-year-old goalkeeper is looking to sort out a permanent transfer. He has no plans to sit on the bench at Die Roten since Neuer will play the majority of games next season. Rekordmeister is also ready to listen to offers for Nubel.

Yann Sommer reportedly has a transfer agreement with Die Roten for the summer transfer window. The Swiss goalkeeper arrived from Borussia Monchengladbach in January after Neuer was ruled out for Ruckrunde due to a serious injury. Sommer will be the second-choice goalkeeper next season. He wants to play regularly ahead of Euros 2024, so a transfer may take place this summer. Meanwhile, Sven Ulreich is expected to stay at Die Roten for next season.
