Man United are potentially looking at moving to sign Xaxi Simons.
Erik ten Hag is being made to wait patiently for any signings to be delivered this summer, which isn’t anything new for Manchester United fans.
The club have been horrendously-slow movers in the market under the Glazer regime. Why change the habit of a lifetime, eh?
Despite the snail’s pace United are moving at, the media are linking the Red Devils with every name under the sun.
The latest information comes from Fabrizio Romano, who credits United with an interest in Xavi Simons.
Immediately, it’s worth noting that PSG look like the frontrunners for any move to sign the Dutchman. However, the Reds aren’t giving up the chase easily.
As per the claim, United have ‘asked to be informed’ on the 20-year-old midfielder, though they’ll face lots of competition. Arsenal, Brighton, Spurs, Dortmund and Leipzig are all in the same position.
First and foremost, if United’s interest is genuine and backed up with an official bid. You’d imagine the only two clubs the Reds would have to be worried about is PSG and Arsenal.
Simons is a massive talent. No doubt he’s set for a bright future within this game. However, an attacking midfielder isn’t really the Reds’ main priority right now.
They have Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and even Jadon Sancho in that position.
There are other pressing needs within this squad right now, meaning a move for Simons certainly feels unlikely at this stage.
It all comes down to the price being right. The Reds would presumably have to stump up more than the £5.5m buy-back clause that PSG have smartly inserted into his PSV Eindhoven contract.
