Man United will still try to sign Mason Mount, but they will not wait around forever.
Manchester United’s hunt for Mason Mount has been pretty common knowledge. The Red Devils have made three bids to sign the Chelsea man. All of which have been knocked back.
Yesterday, stories surfaced which claimed that United had ended their chase of Mount, due to the fact that he’d be a free agent this summer, and the Red Devils were not ready to overpay.
However, that doesn’t mean an end to United’s pursuit of Mount – according to Fabrizio Romano anyway.
He says that United ‘have not left’ the negotiations, with the £55m offer still on the table. However, they’re also not accepting Chelsea’s £65m counter offer.
it’s started that the ‘door remains open’ for United to sign the 24-year-old, though the Reds will ‘not wait forever’ for the player.
Honestly, this seems uncharacteristically smart by United. They know Chelsea have a decision to make in regard to Mount. Either cash in now, or lose the Englishman for free next summer.
The Blues may well be waiting around in hope of another bid from United, though that’s not going to happen in this case. The ball is now firmly in Chelsea’s court.
In terms of other options for the Reds, Moises Caicedo has been talked up. He’d be significantly more costly than the Englishman, though you’re getting a player with far more upside.
As things stand, either Mount or Caicedo will be signings that’ll move United in the right direction. Let’s hope a deal to secure one is done sooner rather than later, allowing the club to move on to other targets.
