Mason Mount wants a Man United transfer this summer, or he will walk away from Chelsea for free next year.
Manchester United have been pushing hard to sign Mason Mount over recent weeks. It has become clear that the Englishman fancies a change of scenery himself, with Erik ten Hag looking to bolster his midfield.
The Englishman has been at Chelsea since 2005, making this an incredibly tough decision to make. However, the Reds’ most recent bid, thought to be worth around £55m, was knocked back.
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter last night to provide the latest information in the Mount saga. He states that Mount’s stance ‘remains clear’, he has no plans to sign a new deal at Chelsea.
On top of that, it’s stated that the 24-year-old wants Man United ‘now’, or he will become a free agent next summer.
United’s £55m bid is still currently valid, though the Red Devils will not wait around ‘forever’, presumably trying to force Chelsea into selling.
The situation is super clear. United will either sign Mount now for a pretty reasonable fee, or wait around for a season and try to make him join as a free agent next summer.
It’s in Chelsea’s best interest to let Mount go this summer. Yes, I understand the need to dig their heels in and try to get a big transfer fee for the homegrown talent, though I suspect that they’ll accept the offer from United sooner rather than later.
Mount will be a fantastic addition t this squad, I’m absolutely convinced of that. He’ll bring energy, mobility, attacking quality and defensive awareness to the table, allowing the Reds far more control in matches.
