Man United are set to be let down by Adrien Rabiot, who will likely sign a new deal at Juventus.
Manchester United have been after Adrien Rabiot ever since Erik ten Hag took charge. The Red Devils tried to sign the Frenchman last summer, though ended the chase due to his wage demands.
Then, earlier this week, a move was once again mentioned by the media. Seemingly, United must have been led to believe that a deal to sign the World Cup winner was now more likely.
Well, it seems as though the Old Trafford club have been used by Rabiot and his agent. According to Corriere dello Sport, per Tuesday’s BBC Gossip column, United’s year-long pursuit of the 28-year-old is set to end in disappointment, as Rabiot is set to sign a new deal at his current club.
After an excellent season with Juventus, this was always a likely play by Rabiot. He was going to be a free agent this summer, meaning the ball was firmly in his court.
It looks like Rabiot and his agents have leveraged United’s reported interest in him, to negotiate a better contract in Turin. We cannot blame him for that. It’s just business.
Thankfully, this has happened early on in the window, meaning United haven’t spent too much time and resources chasing after a transfer target that never had any intention of making the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Again, it just highlights how desperate Ten Hag is to sign a midfielder this summer. It feels like his number one priority right now, given all the links to central players. I’d still suggest a new striker is the biggest need, though who am I to argue?
