The next 24 hours are crucial for Man United, in their pursuit of Mason Mount.
Manchester United Football Club have been hot on the heels of Mason Mount all summer. The Englishman has a winding down contract at Chelsea, with Erik ten Hag looking to take advantage of that situation.
So far, Chelsea continued to play hardball. Three bids have been made. All have been knocked back. The latter, a £55m offer, remains on the table. After all, United know the blues have to cash in now, or lose Mount for free next summer.
Well, Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest information on United’s move for Mount. Apparently, United and Chelsea are set to make a ‘final decision’ on the potential signing of the 24-year-old within the next 24 hours. Direct contacts are set to take place.
Apparently, this will be ‘face-to-face’ contact, with United set to outline their intentions of signing Mount for £55m. And not a penny more.
This feels like the pivotal moment in the saga and over the next day, we should either have a breakthrough in the move, or the transfer will be dead in the water.
The ball is firmly in Chelsea’s court. They’re powerless right now as either way, Mount is looking likely to sign for a direct rival either this summer, or in twelve months’ time.
Credit must go to United for not going over what they believe is a fair price for Mount. Honestly, £55m for a player with a year left on his deal is not to be sniffed at. I’m surprised the Stamford Bridge club haven’t snapped United’s hand off for that fee.
Now, we just have to wait and see whether Chelsea cave.
