Man United have now made contact with Brighton, about potentially signing Moises Caicedo.
Erik ten Hag is seemingly desperate to bring in a new midfielder of some capacity this summer. Mason Mount has been the name most linked, though that deal isn’t really progressing forward.
Moises Caicedo is another name that has been mentioned with a possible Red Devils transfer this summer. The Ecuadorian enjoyed a stellar campaign with Brighton, so he will not come cheaply.
Now, talkSPORT have provided a small update on a potential United move for Caicedo. They state that United ‘have now spoken’ to Brighton about signing the 21-year-old midfielder, though Chelsea still remain favourites at this point in time.
That’s all talkSPORT have had to say on the matter, but it does feel significant in more ways than one.
First and foremost, it shows that United’s interest in signing Caicedo is genuine. After all, the player put in some sublime performances against United last term, so it’s easy to see why they’re keen.
Secondly, it could also hint that a move to sign Mount is not progressing at all. The offer for the Englishman may still be on the table, though not for much longer.
Caicedo is a different type of player, which is interesting. He’s more defensive than Mount, though both have showcased incredible mobility and energy. Presumably, that’s what Ten Hag is looking for in any potential summer signing.
Longevity would favour Caicedo, though in experience and stylistic fit, Mount absolutely has the advantage. That said, I’d be delighted with the signing of either. Both would add another dimension to a United midfield that was inconsistent last season.
