Man United are closing in on their first signing of the summer, after reaching an agreement to sign Mason Mount.
Well, here we are. After weeks of prolonged negotiations with Chelsea Football Club, Manchester United are close to sealing their first signing of the summer in the form of Mason Mount.
The Old Trafford club have been chasing Mount pretty significantly, we’ve been covering those updates for you here.
Now, both David Ornstein in The Athletic has confirmed that a deal is all-but done. There’s probably no journalist I trust more than Ornstein, so take this information with good faith.
He believes United have ‘reached an agreement’ to sign the player in a £60m deal. United have agreed to pay an initial fee of £55m, plus £5m in add-ons.
Mount has now been given permission to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms, with the finishing touches still to be put on the paperwork.
Talks this week have finally yielded a positive conclusion for all parties. United are getting their man, while Chelsea receive a more than decent fee for a player who struggled for confidence last season.
That doesn’t take away from Mount’s overall ability, natural talent and skill. He’s the perfect midfielder for this current United system, which requires bundles of energy in midfield.
The good news about this is the fact that this transfer should be signed and sealed in time for pre-season. Mount should be ready to become a full participant for the Red Devils’ tour of the United States, which is obviously a huge boost as it means he’ll get to know his teammates as early as possible.
Hopefully, it won’t take too long to make this official.
