Man United are now set to push harder in their chase to sign Andre Onana.
Manchester United Football Club are certainly looking at their goalkeeping options this summer, with David de Gea’s future still up in the air.
The Old Trafford side could look to move in a different direction, as in the modern-day game, most shot-stoppers are tasked with passing out from the back; an area where De Gea struggles.
Perhaps the name linked with filling that void more than anyone is Andre Onana. The links initially made sense, given the fact that Erik ten Hag has previously worked with the Cameroonian at Ajax.
Now, The Guardian have provided a snippet of information in regard to United’s chase of Onana.
According to the report, United are now ‘ramping up’ their pursuit of the 27-year-old shot-stopper. To further add to that, the player ‘wants to link up’ with Ten Hag again.
The pair enjoyed great success together at Ajax, while Ten Hag will know exactly what Onana would bring to the table. It feels like a reunion could be in the best interests of all involved, with Inter needing to raise funds through player sales due to their lack of Champions League football.
All the links reckon it’s going to take around £50m to get a deal for Onana done. Yes, it’s expensive, but if he can transform the way United play the game, then honestly, it’d be worth it.
With a keeper like Onana, United will finally be able to start playing out from the back. In theory, that should lead to more chances created, while minimising the opponents’ possession, too.
