Man United would be content with Scott McTominay staying at the club, though they will not stand in his way if he wants to leave.
Manchester United Football Club have some big decisions to make in regard to the future of some players.
The problem is that some footballers are hard to move on from, due to the drastic wages that this United regime have placed them on.
Perhaps one man who doesn’t fall into that bracket is Scott McTominay. The Scotland international has always done a pretty good job when called upon over the last few years. However, it seems pretty clear that he’s not going to reach that elite level.
While writing predominantly about Mason Mount, the BBC’s Simon Stone offered a small snippet of information on the future of McTominay.
He says that United ‘would be happy’ to keep the 26-year-old at the club beyond this summer.
However, McTominay is not viewed as a first-choice regular, and the club would not stand in his way if the right offer comes in – though it’d have to be a move that the midfielder would want to make.
Honestly, this seems fair. McTominay has spent his whole career at United and they wouldn’t want to hurt the relationship the pair have, assuming the player wants to move away.
There has been talk of Newcastle United interest in McTominay over recent months and that would make sense. The 26-year-old would be moving to a rival which would be somewhat disappointing, though you’d imagine the Reds could get a pretty decent transfer fee back for the midfielder.
As a fan, I wouldn’t be too fussed either way. Stay and McTominay is a decent fourth or fifth choice option. Leave and those minutes can be delegated to others.
