Facundo Pellistri has an admirer in Erik ten Hag, with the player in contract talks to re-sign with Man United.
Manchester United Football Club are moving in a different direction under Erik ten Hag. Although he’s still willing to give young players a chance, the United manager has made no bones about the fact that it’s down to the players to prove they’re ready, not the other way around.
Ethan Laird and Zidane Iqbal have been sold, highlighting the fact that Ten Hag isn’t planning on waiting around for the next generation to be ready.
Well, one man who seemingly is in Ten Hag’s future plans is Facundo Pellistri.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who state that Ten Hag is a ‘big fan’ of the emerging 21-year-old at United. To add further information, United are in contract talks with Pellistri, over improved terms.
However, his short-term future at United isn’t guaranteed. The MEN believe that even if Pellistri enjoys a successful pre-season with the Red Devils, a loan move away could be in his best interests to play regular football.
The problem for Pellistri is that following rule changes, he is no longer eligible to be a part of the senior squad without taking up one of the 25 slots. He’d now count towards that total, which could also influence Ten Hag’s decision.
There can be no doubt that Pellistri is a top talent. He’s looked so bright whenever given the chance and I really do believe that we’ll see more of him in future. Perhaps, though, he’ll be playing his football elsewhere in 2023/24.
Either way, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens during the pre-season with Pellistri.
