Man United could well part with Donny van de Beek this summer.
Manchester United are undergoing major change at all levels right now. Erik ten Hag is conducting good work on the field, while the club remains up for sale off it.
The first signing is close to being made; Mason Mount. However, it’s thought United’s transfer budget is limited during this window, so there’s a real chance that the club will have to sell before they can buy.
The latest news on that front comes from the Manchester Evening News, who wrote a detailed piece outlining potential midfield sales. Fred and Scott McTominay get mentions, though we’ve covered those claims before.
It’s the Donny van de Beek snippet that leaves us intrigued. According to the report, United could ‘entertain offers’ for the forgotten 26-year-old this summer.
The Dutch midfielder hasn’t been seen since January after suffering a season-ending injury, though he is expected to be fit in time for pre-season – assuming United will keep him around.
However, it has seemingly been determined that Van de Beek could be sold, presumably if the right offer comes in.
Honestly, at this point, it makes sense to let Van de Beek leave. It just hasn’t quite happened for him at Old Trafford, with this latest injury blow pretty much summing his time up in Manchester perfectly.
In terms of transfer fee, United aren’t going to get anything close to the £35m that Van de Beek cost to sign. They’d do well to get anything above £10m for his sale, given how bad they have been when it comes to selling players of late.
Possible destinations? A return to Ajax feels like the obvious one…
