Man United are keen on Romeo Lavia, though the competition looks fierce.
Manchester United are set to add one midfielder to the squad in the form of Mason Mount, though Erik ten Hag doesn’t seem to be stopping there in terms of middle of the park additions.
With a striker and goalkeeper still large needs, the fact that the Reds continued to be linked to midfielders is somewhat baffling. Today’s claim comes from The Times.
The article is actually about Arsenal’s interest in Romeo Lavia, though United also get a mention.
Apparently, United are ‘interested’ in signing the 19-year-old midfielder, though they’ll face competition from not only Arsenal, but Chelsea too. That alone should tell you how talented the young man is.
Lavia was quality for Southampton all season long. In fact, he was probably their best player, though he couldn’t stop their relegation.
The man from Belgium will probably be wanting a move this summer, in order to avoid having to play Championship football next term. However, that’s dependent on someone stumping up big money to sign him.
I honestly thought the Englishman Mount would be United’s only midfield signing, though the fact that the club continue to be linked with other midfielders leaves me intrigued.
It does seem as though United are looking at bringing in a defensive midfielder of some description. Probably as cover for when Casemiro needs a rest or is missing through suspension…
For now, though, there are other pressing matters within the squad that should take priority. As talented as Lavia us, we’re way more desperate for a striker and shot-stopper.
It may also be tough to beat out Arsenal to sign Lavia regardless.
