Man United have eyes on Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, with a second midfield signing not ruled out.
A deal for Mason Mount is all-but-official at this point. Credit where it’s due, the club have moved relatively quickly to get this deal done and Erik ten Hag has a player that he genuinely wants to work with.
The Englishman will add an awful lot to this squad, with supporters assuming he’d be the only midfield addition made this summer. Well, that may not be the case…
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘keeping their options open’ in regard to a second midfield signing during this window. That’s due to the uncertain futures of both Fred and Scott McTominay.
Sofyan Amrabat is one of the names dropped by the MEN, with United linked with a move to sign the Moroccan just yesterday.
A second name is also mentioned; Romeo Lavia.
The MEN reckon that United are ‘monitoring’ the talented 19-year-old, as are ‘several’ other Premier League sides, so the Red Devils would not have it all their own way.
There’s no doubt that Lavia is an emerging talent. He had an impressive season for Southampton, though he couldn’t prevent their relegation.
The man from Belgium learned his craft in the Manchester City academy before moving to St Mary’s last summer. However, he’s probably not going to want to drop down to the Championship – hence, a transfer feels likely.
For United, this isn’t a case of urgency. Rather, the reds can bide their time, see what happens with Fred and McTominay and then make an executive decision. The problem? At that stage, I’d be highly surprised if Lavia is still available.
