Mason Mount is now just a couple of days away from meeting his new Man United teammates in training.
Manchester United Football Club are rapidly closing in on their first summer signing in the form of Mason Mount.
Erik ten Hag identified the Englishman as a transfer target early and credit must go to the club, who have worked hard behind the scenes, negotiating tirelessly, in order to get their man.
Mount struggled for Chelsea last term, though that does not take away from his overall talent and ability. This lad can play at the highest level, as he’s displayed for numerous years.
Aged just 24, Mount brings more youth and mobility to a quietly-ageing midfield. Yes, United have spent a large chunk of the budget to bring him in, but the positive impact he’ll make in the long run will far outweigh the fee.
The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler has provided some more information on the transfer, claiming an announcement could come ‘today’.
On top of that, the club are putting the ‘finishing touches’ on the signing, with the player expected to meet his new teammates on Thursday, beginning his pre-season.
I genuinely cannot remember the last time United had a signing over the line in time for the player to partake fully in pre-season. This is only a massive positive.
Mount now has weeks to learn how to play with his new teammates, before the serious stuff starts in six weeks’ time.
No doubt he’ll get a warm welcome upon his arrival in Manchester, particularly by the English contingent like Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire.
Hopefully, we get that official announcement imminently.
