Man United are closing in on a move to sign Andre Onana.
David de Gea is now a thing of the past. The Spaniard has been a wonderful servant for the Red Devils, though it’s fair to say the game has moved on, whereas his style hasn’t.
Erik ten Hag is crying out for a shot-stopper who can play out from the back. The importance of adding a top-class keeper with that skillset cannot be understated.
Andre Onana has been the name most linked, albeit he’ll be an expensive addition. Probably somewhere around the £50m mark when all is said and done.
The latest update in the saga comes from Fabrizio Romano. The Italian makes a bold claim.
He states that the Red Devils are now ‘really close’ to sealing the signing of Onana after a positive round of talks. A final bid is to arrive ‘soon’, then it’ll be a done deal.
Romano went on to say that the transfer will be sealed by the end of next week, with personal terms already agreed. Understandably, United want Onana signed in time to play a part in pre-season.
Honestly, I’m impressed with how efficiently United are going about their business this summer. Normally, we’re waiting around until mid-August before things start to speed up.
This time, United are identifying their targets nice and early, then going out and getting them. This is massive because it helps the settling-in period. Both Onana and Mason Mount will feel more at home after spending the summer with their new teammates, meaning they’ll be in a better place to hit the ground running.
I’m just excited to see him play. Although his calmness may be a bit over the top at times, it’s going to feel good to see United having way more possession.
