Anthony Martial is still working his way back from injury, hence his exclusion from the first Man United pre-season game.
Manchester United Football Club begin their pre-season campaign tomorrow, with a game against Leeds United. The travelling squad has now been named by the club, with a youthful-looking party gearing up for this one.
However, one man who will not be involved is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman, typically, ended the 2022/23 season injured. He’d suffer a hamstring problem that’d rule him out of the FA Cup final.
He wasn’t among the names set to take part tomorrow, leaving us all scratching our heads. Well, journalist David McDonnell shed some light on the situation, claiming that he’s recovering from a hamstring injury.
According to McDonnell, the United star has ‘not travelled’ for the pre-season game as he’s still working his way back from said hamstring problem. Donny van de Beek is also unavailable. He’s on an individual recovery programme.
Honestly, patience is wearing thin where Martial is concerned. The Frenchman didn’t look all that interested in putting his body through the pain barrier last season, while the injuries continued to pile up.
It’s true that games were tougher without him, particularly as the Frenchman looked sharp during last summer’s pre-season tour. He sort of limped into last season. He’s doing the same here which is concerning.
This time around, I’m hoping that Ten Hag isn’t placing all his faith in Martial. Hence, a new striker simply has to be signed this summer, in order to either compete with, or replace the ex-AS Monaco man, who cannot keep himself out of the treatment room.
