Man United are not looking to loan out Kobbie Mainoo.
Every pre-season, there’s always that one breakout star at Manchester United. It’s why I love watching these friendly matches as we’re offered a true glimpse into the future.
Erik ten Hag goes about his business somewhat differently. He’ll not give out these opportunities willy-nilly, instead, you have to prove you’re ready to be a part of this squad. Alejandro Garnacho did that last season. Now, it’s Kobbie Mainoo’s turn.
The young midfielder has only been given limited chances so far, but it’s blatantly obvious how good this young man is going to be.
Now, The Athletic (subscription required), have offered a glimpse into Mainoo’s future. According to their sources, United are not looking to loan out the talented teen.
It’s said that Ten Hag trusts Mainoo’s ability as a player, while the gaffer is said to ‘love him to madness’. I’m not really sure what that means entirely, but it sounds like good news for the Stockport-born midfielder.
Mainoo is still only eighteen, so I just assumed he’d be playing his football elsewhere next summer in order to gain that invaluable experience.
Well, it looks like we will see Mainoo in action – but for the United first-team.
He’ll no doubt be drip-fed minutes just like Garnacho was, with Mainoo having to work hard to force his way into the side on a regular basis. However, United will be competing in four competitions so I do not doubt that his chances will come.
I’m just so excited to watch this young man grow and flourish. He has all the skills required to be an elite level midfielder. It’s just that little bit sweeter because he’s one of our own.
