Man United have identified Kolo Muani as their contingency plan, with a move for Rasmus Hojlund now looking in doubt.
It’s no secret that Manchester United require a new striker this summer. Anthony Martial simply couldn’t be trusted in 2022/23, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit still leaves a gaping hole within that dressing room.
Another number nine should now be priority number one, with a move for Andre Onana all-but signed and sealed.
Harry Kane was ruled out pretty early, while Rasmus Hojlund looked to be the next man up. The Red Devils could now look elsewhere from the Dane. That’s according to ESPN.
Their journalist, Rob Dawson, believes United are ‘ready to step up’ interest in 24-year-old forward, Kolo Muani. That’s amid fears over a Hojlund deal, as Atalanta have so far refused to compromise on their valuation of the young Dane.
It’s stated that Hojlund is a key target for United, though the £60m+ asking price is a little high from a Red Devils perspective. It’s added that the Old Trafford club will test Atalanta’s resolve with an official bid, but the club are now working on a move for Muani, presumably as an alternative option.
Muani is said to be ‘high up’ on Ten Hag’s list of targets, after scoring an impressive 23 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt last term.
The 24-year-old from France greatly impressed for the Bundesliga side last term, while that extra few years experience could lead to a faster transition for Muani, as opposed to the younger Hojlund.
It goes without saying, United need someone who can come in and hit the ground running. Perhaps, in a weird sense, Muani could prove to be the better option despite being lower on Ten Hag’s transfer wishlist.
