Kobbie Mainoo will not leave on loan this summer. Instead, he will play a part in the Man United first team.
Pre-seasons are always an excellent glimpse into the future of Manchester United Football Club. The Old Trafford side are looking good under Erik ten Hag, though there’s always space in the squad for a world-class talent. Just ask Alejandro Garnacho about that.
This time around, Ten Hag has made it clear that first-team chances will have to be earned, rather than handed out. The 31-man squad heading to the United States looks more like what we’ve been accustomed to over the last twelve months. However, there are a few young starlets involved.
Among those who have jetted out to the United States is Kobbie Mainoo. He, like Garnacho, was a part of the youth cup-winning side from a year ago. He’s been showcasing his talents at the highest level ever since.
For many, the natural path is now a loan move away. However, for the extraordinary talent, they do not go down that route and instead, head straight to the first team.
According to the Manchester Evening News, that’s exactly what’s happening with Mainoo. The United youngster has been ‘informed’ he will play for the Reds’ first team this season. He will not go out on loan.
Mainoo is considered the ‘shining light’ of his age group, and as a result, he will be kept around.
It is understood that a loan was possible at one point, though the decision has now been made to keep him around the squad.
Mainoo has looked more than ready for this level every single time he has taken to the field, albeit in a limited capacity.
The Stockport-born midfielder will now get the chance to prove his worth during the US leg of the tour.
