Man United have confirmed the signing of Andre Onana from Inter.
Manchester United allowed David de Gea to walk away a couple of weeks ago, with the Spaniard leaving on a free transfer.
The gaping hole left by the Spaniard had to be filled at some point. Erik ten Hag wouldn’t have allowed the 32-year-old to depart unless he had a plan in place.
Well, now we know that plan was Andre Onana. The pair worked together previously at Ajax. They’ll now be reunited at the Theatre of Dreams.
The club confirmed the news last night, with Onana signing on a five-year deal, with the opportunity for an extra year.
Onana only spent the one season with Inter, though it was an excellent one from a personal perspective. The man from Cameroon enjoyed great success on the field, showcasing his brilliant abilities as both a shot-stopper and ball-playing keeper.
Once again, this is a situation where Ten Hag has been delivered his number one target. We have to give the club the utmost credit for delivering their manager his man.
It’s also gone through quickly and at an excellent transfer fee, too. Completing the deal so swiftly allows Onana the time he needs to get to know his new teammates during pre-season, so the whole club can hit the ground running when the serious stuff starts next month.
I don’t think we understand the importance of signing a player like Onana. He’ll completely change the way this Red Devils side plays the game and that will become evident over the next few pre-season friendlies when we get to see our new signing in action.
Welcome to the biggest club in the world, Andre!
