Man United are now back on alert over the Harry Kane signing.
A new striker is an absolute must this summer. Sooner rather than later with pre-season now well underway.
Harry Kane was always the number one target. It makes sense. The Englishman is a proven goal scorer in the Premier League. There are none better than him at this level.
Early on, the Reds’ hope of adding Kane to their squad was ended early, due to Spur’s high asking price. However, a deal may be back on the table.
That’s according to The Mirror on Sunday. Spurs have now given Kane an ‘ultimatum’ about his future. They’re ready to sell their star this summer, unless he signs a new deal.
Spurs owner, Joe Lewis, has told Daniel Levy he will not let Kane run down his contract and leave for free next summer. As a result, this has put United ‘back on red alert’ over the signing of the striker. It will also see Bayern Munich step up their efforts to sign the Three Lions forward.
Spurs are understood to have placed a £400k-a-week offer on the table for Kane, a figure which United would be able to match.
Initially, the North London side wanted £110m to let Kane leave, a figure which United deemed too steep. Their valuation was around the £70m mark, which does feel far more reasonable given his age and contract status.
It’s interesting as this story is coming from Spurs’ end. They’re seemingly not ready to lose their prized asset for no transfer fee, with their hand now starting to be played.
In the end, I reckon Bayern feels like the most likely destination right now. Spurs would no doubt tack on an extra £10-20m to sell to a Premier League rival and I’m not sure United would be willing to overpay for Kane this summer.
