Man United still believe they’ll sign Rasmus Hojlund before the season starts on August 14th.
Manchester United are operating smartly this summer. Erik ten Hag has made a couple of important additions, while players are also being moved on.
More than anything, you have to admire the speed with which deals are happening. That feels like the Ten Hag effect in full swing.
Further additions are still required for the Red Devils to challenge for major honours. Predominantly, a new centre-forward who’ll guarantee goals. Rasmus Hojund has been identified as the main man for the Old Trafford side in that regard.
The Guardian (subscription required) have provided an interesting update on Hojlund. Without wanting to go into too much detail as it’d ruin their paywall, it’s positive news for United.
The Reds ‘are optimistic’ that they’ll complete the signing before the season starts on August 14th. That’s just two-and-a-half weeks away from now.
United do not wish to pay more than £60m to acquire the Dane this summer, though there’s a ‘firm belief’ a deal will happen. Furthermore, The Guardian believe United will not have to sell before they can buy.
This is all encouraging stuff, with United taking steps in the right direction to sign Hojlund. As things stand, Anthony Martial is just too unreliable right now, both in terms of his injury record and inconsistent performances. That could explain why Marcus Rashford was trialled at striker against Real Madrid last night.
When all is said and done, Hojlund feels like a smart play. Yes, it’s a risk due to his age and inexperience, but he has all the tools to become a top class forward. Hopefully, a deal can be reached soon enough.
