Man United are looking like being without Kobbie Mainoo for a couple of months through injury.
Manchester United Football Club are midway through their pre-season, with the fitness levels building up for their senior stars.
The Red Devils have done decently enough, though the Real Madrid game was a pretty poor performance all-round. Sometimes, that happens. However, the major issue coming from that game was the injury suffered to Kobbie Mainoo.
The midfielder picked up a problem early on, going down clutching at his ankle. Obviously, that’s never a good sign.
Now, the Manchester Evening News have confirmed the injury blow, claiming that the Reds ‘fear’ the emerging player will be out for two months with the problem.
Mainoo had looked super bright in the four matches he started before going down with injury and I have to say, I’m absolutely gutted. With a full pre-season under his belt, I genuinely thought he had a real chance at playing meaningful minutes in the early portion of the season.
Now, I fear he may be shelved until at least the Christmas period. Erik ten Hag will not want to rush him back into action too soon following this problem, which is definitely the right thing to do, I’m just sad we will not get to see him play.
The fact that he was spotted in a protective boot and on crutches when United left the stadium always looked like it’d be a telling factor in regard to the severity of this problem. Sadly, our fears have been confirmed.
Hopefully, Mainoo is staying positive behind the scenes. Though it cannot be easy.
This will also likely speed up a potential move to sign a new midfielder. Sofyan Amrabat, anyone…?
